This may be an elementary question, but
I wish to save to a local hard drive a frame captured using the snapshot feature.
If it being saved, how do you determine it destination folder?

Tools -> Preferences... and Video and Video snapshots then Directory. (save and restart VLC after changes)

it automatically defaults to your "my pictures" directory normally.
which on most versions of windows you can find off the start button.
