I had the same problem, but it was solved.

Read following quote from http://wiki.videolan.org/Win32CompileMSYS
For those wishing to have a Notepad look-and-feel I recommend notepad2, which may tempt you to ditch Notepad altogether. You can set File - Line endings - Default to "Unix (LF)", but it always saves opened files in the ending style they have.
C:\MSys\1.0\home\<username>\vlc\configure.ac
C:\msys\1.0\home\<username>\vlc\extras\package\win32\configure-msys.sh
C:\msys\1.0\home\<username>\vlc\extras\package\win32\configure-common.sh

These files must be saved in unix format. After it bootstrap have been done successfully.

I used notepad2 to make sure the below files have unix line feed.

C:\msys\1.0\share\autoconf\autoconf\autoconf.m4f
C:\MSys\1.0\home\<username>\vlc\configure.ac
C:\msys\1.0\home\<username>\vlc\extras\package\win32\configure-msys.sh
C:\msys\1.0\home\<username>\vlc\extras\package\win32\configure-common.sh

Please help me get past this error, so I can proceed with the 'make'.

Thanks,
Ganesh

It seems that it isn't like that.
C:\msys\1.0\local\bin\m4.exe:C:/msys/1.0/share/autoconf/autoconf/autoconf.m4f:20
77: expecting line feed in frozen file

If you need to edit your files, install nano/pico and edit them via shell. That way encodings shouldn't change.

Hello,
bootstrap command fails for me also, getting that message (through MSYS):

Code: Select all

$ ./bootstrap ++ dirname ./bootstrap + cd . + ACLOCAL_ARGS='-I m4 ' + test -d extras/contrib/build/bin ++ uname -s + test .MINGW32_NT-6.1 = .Darwin + pkg-config --version + PKGCONFIG=no + export AUTOPOINT + test '' + AUTOPOINT=autopoint + autopoint --dry-run --force + AUTOPOINT=true + echo + set +x generating modules/**/Makefile.am ..................................................................... + echo + echo + cp -f INSTALL INSTALL.git + autoreconf --install --force --verbose -I m4 /mingw/bin/autoreconf: /mingw/bin/autoreconf-2.67: /bin/perl: bad interpreter: N o such file or directory /mingw/bin/autoreconf: line 157: /mingw/bin/autoreconf-2.67: error 0
Any ideas?
Thanks

Thanks. I tried to reinstall it, using ActivePerl but the problem insists. Should I build from source? Which version should I use?

No, just unzip it correctly from MSys.
Or use my SDK.

Antivirus programs cause errors like that. So disable them while you bootstrap.

I had the same problem, and solved it suggested as : dos2unix configure.ac
