real audio problems

two problems
1. can't pause or move. Pausing does nothing. Trying to jump forward or backward just kills the stream.
2. Some streams have audio problems. After some time of playing okay they will start having regular skip/hiccups, or it will sound like multiple streams playing. Some other streams from the same source do fine.
I read the info on streaming but it doesn't make much sense to me. I just copy the link http://clipcast.wpr.org:8080/ramgen/wpr ... 080824a.rm and paste it into the "open file" box.

Have you tried VLC 1.1.0 nightly builds?
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/?C=M;O=D (trunks are 1.1.0)

I haven't been using betas but I just tried one and it didn't help. I'm not sure of the myriad downloads available but I chose a directory with the most recent date, the "trunk" (?) directory, and downloaded the exe version. Installed it, it uninstalled the old, everything works like normal but the problem is the same. I can pause some real streams and not others. The sample I gave is one that will not pause. It also won't let me jump forward or backward.

Pinning down the garbled playback is harder because it may be 20-30 minutes into a stream and since I can't jump forward...
