Audio "pumping" or compression?

Hello ,

I am having a problem with audio "pumping" where the level goes up and down. I think this may have to do with some normalization. It sounds like compression normalization or anti clipping.

I went through the advanced options and saw nothing activated that would seem to cause this. I do not get this on other players.

I am running VLC on Windows XP SP2 with a Soundblaster Audigy 2 NX USB .

Happens with all files? Or just with certain ones? Replay gain might do something, it can be disabled from Tools -> Preferences... (Show settings: All) and Audio.

It is on all of the MP3 files I have tested it with.

The option you suggested is OFF as well as other normalize options, and the like.
