Jerky platback

VLC 1.0.5; HP Compaq 311c 1170; Windows 7. Super netbook for video. Hooked up to a HDTV vie HDMI cable gives you excellent playback on your HDTV. Using Windows Media Player 11 the playback is excellent. With VLC it is also excellent, perhaps even a little better, but it is slightly jerky. I use it to view my Camcorder HD videos. It's a Canon MV 30 minitape HD camcorder, so the format is Mpeg 2 HD. Can anyone give me a tip how to make the playback with VLC smoother?

HD playback with VLC was never been really performant.
But it should be smoother in VLC 1.1.0, which has improved video acceleration for GeForce 8/9/... graphic cards and Atom Netbooks. But this acceleration will only work on Windows Vista/7.

Besten Dank for the reply! In the meantime I have compared WMP playback with direct from camcorder via HDMI playback. Can't see much difference. I like VLC but just can't get it to work smoothly on my Windows 7 laptop. On my XP machine it's perfect. Maybe VLC is not compatible with Windows 7?

It's probably because your XP machine is more powerful than your Windows 7 laptop. Depending on your system WMP or other DirectShow media players might perform better than VLC, especially when it comes to HD material. Afaik, this is because players using DirectShow can use hardware acceleration (through your graphics card). And until now VLC had no graphics card powered hardware acceleration feature. But it will come in 1.1. So look forward to it
