Prevent flicker when changing files in fullscreen?

When I have VLC playing a video in fullscreen mode on a secondary monitor, clicking that file again makes it play smoothly in VLC. In other words, restarting the file doesn't cause any flicker. However, if I click a *different* file that's a different pixel size, VLC momentarily comes out of fullscreen mode, and then back, causing quite a bit of flicker.

I'm guessing what's happening during this time is VLC is resizing its interface to fit the video. But I'm wondering if there's some way to prevent this behavior? I'm trying to use VLC in an art installation, and the flicker ruins the effect.

Thanks for any help.

VLC 0.8.6i should work like that IIRC.

I'd like to voice interest in smooth video transitions.

Kiosks, presentations, art installations... the flicker->desktop->cone->flicker->next experience kind of ruins it for all of these applications. Just not having all the flickers and flashes would be good, but if some kind of cross-fade could be done it would be even better.

From what I have read, having the videos the same resolution helps (but I haven't tried it).
