VLC plugin doesn't work in Mozilla

I have used the VLC plugin for playback of audio and video content in Firefox for quite some time now. I can't say it had worked well. It tends to hang with a black screen showing the message "Waiting for video" and when it does work there are no playback controls such as the progress slider, play/skip/pause/stop/fastforward/reverse/skip/volume buttons as most other audio/video playback plugins have.

Now, since I updated to the 3.5 series of Firefox, the VLC plugin has stopped working completely ever since, no rtsp, aspx mp3 or any video works at all. All I get is a black screen saying "Waiting for video ...". I don't even think it works with the new Firefox Minefield browser.

Waiting for video can mean that VLC cannot load the media file or that there is manifest/registry issue which prevents VLC from finding needed plugins.

I can't see how the registry can create problems for VLC and there's definitely not a problem with the file format since the standalone player can play all the videostreams the plugin fails to play.

VLC plugin searches the plugins from location that is listed in InstallDir reg key.
there's definitely not a problem with the file format since the standalone player can play all the videostreams the plugin fails to play
vlc.exe can find all needed stuff from plugins subfolder.

I Also Had the same problem as Scarabol. It shows waiting for video when i tried to open the .xspf file from my mozila browser. Is there anyway to open the .xspf file from the open file (in Mozila) and played them in a stand alone player ( Cause it works well with the stand alone player ). It also happen in .m3u extension. I trie using both version 1.0.5 and 1.1.0

Yes, you have to override Firefox file opening defaults.

Thank You, I can do set the m3u file in tools option apllications menu on firefox. But i still can't do the xspf, since in the application menu, doesn't show any xspf menu to choose with.

You have to add it with force. If there is already malformed action for it, you can remove it with following tips
