VLC 1.05 Playlist - no keyboard-only multiselect

Win XP SP3 all updates. Updated to "1.05 Goldeneye".
In the Qt interface Playlist window(Ctrl-L) Shift-Dn or Shift-Up can't select groups of more than 2 items
- Shift-Arrow selects the current and the next, but deselects the previous, so only 2 items are selectable.
Keyboard workaround: Space, Ctrl-dn, space, Ctrl-dn, space (to select a contiguous group)
Mouse workaround: Click, Shift-click for a contiguous group, Ctrl-click for a noncontiguous group.
Also: the issue cleared up by "magic" after several deletions, but returned after restarting VLC.

I tried
- Reset Preferences, Save - no effect.
- complete deletion of all preference files - no effect.
- uninstall, reinstall as "fresh install" - no effect.

I can't find a binary of 1.04, so I'm reverting to 1.03 from another machine in the meantime.

takeback: [EDIT: Seems to be fixed in nightly 1.06-git Goldeneye 2010-02-21: multiselect both work correctly]
EDIT: multiselect fails in 1.06-git Goldeneye and 1.10-git 2010-02-22 - weird, it works once, then not on subsequent runs.
edit: fixed title to clarify

There isn't one for Win32.

@VLC_help - ok, existential crisis averted. 1.03 meets my needs for now.
