Want to play and record ustream video, with sound using VLC. I'm new to VLC and can't make heads or tails of posts on this subject. Have played with the menus but no idea what they describe.

Can VLC do this and how ? If so please describe either gui or command line steps.

Have XP3, VLC, Media Monkey, Flash

If you know the URL of that video, you can use demux dump

Since original posting I have more details:

I viewed the ustream video from IE8:
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/4830692 and captured these 3 files with program 'SWF Catcher':
6r2djk2l.swf, CopyToClipboard.swf, ssAdvUsrSeg.swf, viewer.228.swf

I get that VLC doesn't play .swf but it's the conversion which I seek. How do I convert to an internet independent video which I could burn to CD or DVD?

The video is seldom inside the swf file, usually the swf downloads .flv or .mp4 video from somewhere.

Those .swf's were the only files 'caught' by swfcatcher.exe. The files are downloaded from ustream by IE into temp I'net cache and are difficult to find among the hundreds of others. I guess not many VLC folks have had experience with this problem since I found no threads on it. Not much luck with google either only a couple of commercial progs with no specific documentation regarding ustream video.

The simple the best: if your Ustream user, you can go to your Dashboard, open your "Your videos" tab and find the video you want to download (it must to be yours). Near to the bottom of the page there's a link to download it as FLV file. Open one of these files with VLC is very easy, i guess you know how.
If you want to download a file that isn't yours, better use Opera. This browser use to make it easy with videos in flash. First, view the video completly. If you don't do it, maybe you can see it, but only the piece you achieve to download.
Find the temporary internet files (it depends of your Opera version and your operative system). Once there, you'll find the video by size (they use to be the biggest) but with a random name and without termination. The only thing you've to do is to change its name and put it the .flv termination (eg. "myfile.flv"). Change to any folder and there you can open it and save it where ever you want.
If you find too complicate to find your video within many, use other browser to navigate, open in Opera only the one you want to see as flv, or do it one by one.
