Can't Clear Media Library [Windows 7]

I can no longer clear out my entire media library in one step. I used to be able to press CTRL+A (to select all) and then use the delete key to remove the entries. It appears that the delete key no longer performs this function. If I select one item to remove, the delete key does not work either. To delete an entry, I must right click on it and click delete. However, you can't do this to delete multiple files as right clicking will change your selection to select only the item you right clicked on.
After I discovered this, I was hoping that I could get around this with a different workaround. I thought that maybe if I added in my directories again (which contained media files that had not yet been added to my media library as well as many entries that already had been) that it would not duplicate the entries that had already been added and the only additions would be the new files that hadn't been added to the media library yet, but it added everything -- duplicates as well. So, I'm at a standstill.
I'm using VLC 1.0.5 Goldeneye on Windows 7 (and VLC is running as admin... should not be anything due to UAC).
Does anyone have any ideas?
