updating versions

Please, can VLC update its version while it is running? Twice in two weeks, when I opened VLC Media Player to listen to a recording, I received a message that update was available. I closed VLC so it could update but, each time I closed VLC, the message also disappeared. Should I have left VLC open while clicking to update? Thank you.

You have to let it download the installer and install the installer.

Thank you. I am not sure I understand "download the intaller and install the installer". Maybe I should confess that I am computer illiterate. Nevertheless, my question is 'do I leave VLC open?' I have always thought programs had to be closed to update. But, when I close VLC, the message window also disappears.

VLC doesn't update itself automatically. You have to download the installer and start it.

I am sorry for my density. I do not know any other way to ask it than: Do I leave the VLC software program open and running while downloading and installing?

It might be just easier to close down VLC, download
http://www.videolan.org/mirror-geo.php? ... -win32.exe and install it.

Thank you. That does help.
