Video Capture problem with Canopus ADVC-110

I am using VLC media player 1.0.5 Goldeneye.

I have a Sony camera connected to a Canopus ADVC-110 video capture device. The video capture device is connected through FireWire to a Windows Vista computer. The device manager shows a AV/C Tape Recorder/Player under Imaging devices.

On the VLC media player, I select "Media->Open Capture Device...". The capture device screen shows and for the Video device name, Default is selected. If you pull down the name, you can see the "AV/C Tape Recorder/Player" name. So, I am assuming that is the default. If I click the Play button, the dialog closes.

When i click the play button on the main screen, I get the following errors on the Errors dialog...
Capture failed:
VLC cannot open ANY capture device.Check the error log for details.
Capture failed:
VLC cannot open ANY capture device.Check the error log for details.
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dshow://'. Check the log for details.

I also get the following messages with Verbosity Level at 2...

If I open the Configure for the Device Selection for the Video device name, I get a dialog showing a tab, Digital VCR Control, with VCR and Tape Info that shows that I have a "SD DVCR with 525-60, Can be recorded" and a bunch of standard VCR control buttons. When I push the play button, the timecode/track number begins to advance. I click okay and then play on the Open Media dialog and I get the same errors as above.

If I try to stream video from the video capture device (ADVC110), I get the same sort of error about not being able to open the video device.

I have used VLC for years for playback and have really liked it. This is the first time I have tried to do video capture with the program.

Thanks,
Rick

dshow error: can't open video device
dshow debug: skipping audio device
dshow error: FATAL: could not open ANY device
For some reason dshow plugin cannot open the device. I have no clue why it happens.

In appreciate the prompt response, thank you.

I am able to run both Windows Movie Maker and Grass Valley's Edius Neo 2 players and capture data. What is "dshow"? Is that something contained in VideoLan? Is there anything I can do to provide more information?

I really like VideoLan, I am not complaining. It is a very good open source program the developers should be proud of.

Thanks,
Rick

Not sure what your trying to achieve but if you just want to watch try this ->

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=74059&start=0#p243698

I suspect the cause of the problem with VLC will be the colour format of the source.
