"My input can't be opened"?

Posted: 10 Feb 2010 01:43
by rubyred78291
I just downloaded VLC media player yesterday, and i was watching dvds just fine for a couple hours until it froze and booted me off randomly. I tried to play it again but it says "Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd://E:\'. Check the log for details."

How can I fix this? I have Vista, and I downloaded the update so I have 1.0.5 i think is what it is. :?

And I dont know where this 'log'' they speak of is kept...heh

Can you browse the disc content via Windows Explorer?

I'm having the exact problem (using windows XP). I was watching a DVD at the weekend and now I get the exact same error message. I cannot explore the DVD in Windows Explorer either - it just says "DVD-RAM drive (F:)" and when I open or explore it I just get nothing.

I checked the log and got this:-

Ok, I set verbosity to 2..
And yes, I can explore the DVD! I tried to open one of the files in there..I tried an ifo file which didnt work at all, then i tried a vob file which did bring up a black screen but nothing else.

I cannot explore the DVD in Windows Explorer either - it just says "DVD-RAM drive (F:)" and when I open or explore it I just get nothing.
If you cannot browse the disc content, VLC cannot open it either.

rubyred78291: Open Log before doing anything else, then open the disc via Media -> Open Disc... and tell us what the errors are.

Okay...so this morning it started working, but pretty glitchy. And I also just watched about an hour worth but it would freeze frequently to 'buffer'. It wasnt so glitchy before...but i did the error test anyway, here it is:

I am experiencing exactly the same.
When I try to play SOME DVDs (not all of them), VLC shows the error:
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd://D:\'. Check the log for details.
The log is:

Remark: I can normally view the contents of the DVDs, they are fine in Windows. I can play'em without problems using KMPlayer, Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, etc.

My system is Win 7 x64.

PS.: A few months ago I used to run VLC in a x86 Windows 7 and, so far, I had never experienced such problems. Maybe it is the system x64. I'll try to play these DVDs using a virtual x86 system.
