Increase/decrease gain

I simply wonder how I increase gain/volume. The span between silence and full blast is very small by default.

No, I mean the volume, see this pic:

I suppose what I want is for the curve A to B in the picture to have a steeper inclination,
something like A to C, if you get my drift.
