VLC keeps changing its size - annoying.

Hi all!

Was using VLC .97 (I think) but just updraded yesterday to VLC 1.0.3 as was having 5.1 to stereo downmix problems.

Anyway, that is all sorted but I have a new and very annoying problem.

Whilst playing a DVD I resize VLC down to a fairly small size to play in the corner of my screen while I work, however no matter what size I drag to, every so often it just resizes the VLC player back up to the original size of the video playing. Please note:- this happens when playing a singular movie on DVD but didnt seem to happen with the old VLC versions.

Has anyone any idea how to stop this please?

VLC will suddenly resize to large and because it is in the corner will have most of its window offscreen although the the video stays small, but if I move the player just a fraction then the video fills the player again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You use Media -> Open Disc... to play your DVD stuff?

Yeah, I use media>open disc.

Everything is fine for about 2 or 3 minutes, my resized window sits nicely at the bottom of my screen, then all of a sudden it resizes itself to the original DVD picture size. If I resize it down, it will do it again.

This does not happen with regular files opened by double-clicking. Is fine with MKVs, AVIs, etc - it only seems to be with DVDs?

Any ideas?

There are two things that can cause problem. Movie in disc has different aspect ratios in different scenes (not very likely) or each VOB is opened as separate item and VLC re-creates video window during the change. Does Tools -> Messages... (set Verbosity to 2) complain something when change happens?

Would the regular “Tools -> Preferences (under Interface Settings [Simple mode] see Interface Type)
->Display Mode (scroll to) -> Complete look with information area (in whatever VLC).
In linux - tools - preferences - Interface - display mode”, help you ?

Experiment somewhat with “Resize interface to video size”.
Always quit and restart after made changes.
