Converting AVCHD with VLC

I am attempting to transcode an HD, 103 MB AVCHD file (.M2TS) to a .MOV also in HD. I add the file to VLC's transcode queue, select all the format options, hit save, it does the little slider streaming thingy, sometimes with audio, sometimes not. Then I play the file and it's audio only.

Help, please?

Oh, and here's a link to the file if that helps:

I don't really have an answer for you but, I've found VLC to not exactly be a cure all solution to transcoding video, especially for newer video standards. In the instances where it doesn't work well a more specific solution is usually better. Unfortunately, I don't have a more specific answer for you. However, I would look for a tool that converts AVCHD to other formats. And you may not find one that converts directly to mov either.

Since AVCHD appears to use the h264 codec but appears to be a commercial collaboration (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD) it may be of a proprietary flavor. *shrugs*

If you just want to remux, try tool called mp4box (+ yamb GUI). Avoid .mov format.

I've got the same problem on linux with vlc 1.1.2 and opened a bug report for it: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/5560
