DVB-S tuning

Hello guys,

after spending 2 days i have to say i cant figure out by my own - and need you help, please.
Windows XP, many different versions of VLC, DVB-S card "Technisat Skystar HD2" AND "Hauppauge WinTV-Nova-HD-S2" i cant tune the card.

hauppauge: no picture at all
Technisat: Always "München TV", regardless of my settings.

I tried loads of "vlc.exe dvb-s:// --dvb-frequency=10744000 --dvb-srate=...." commands - without luck. Either nothing, or "München-TV".

Can anyone give me a working example of one commandline, working on windows, for receiving a sat-channel, please?

THX

Hi,

no one has a working DVB-s in windows? If, please provide either MRL or playlist!! If not possible, can someone explain how to make the develop-team focus on that?

regards
kakies

What does Tools -> Messages... (set Verbosity to 2) say when you try to open your DVB-S device? (open messages before capture device)

Hi VLC_Help,

first let me say thank you for spending time so solve my problem. Forum seems to be down for a while, sorry for the delay.
I really tried different PCs, all under XP prof. actual patched, two different cards (Hauppauge and Technisat) - and i never get what i guess. Semms that either i make a mistake in tuning parameters, or SW has a bug..As soon as there is a working environment i will write a manual for all of us.

Using Hauppauge WinTV-Nova-HD2 (model 229) I try to tune to the first Program in this list (ARTE Deutsch):
http://www.astra.de/sender/senderlisten ... number.pdf
SR22000 FEC=5/6 Freq=10744 is in the list.

What i do:
1) Open VLC
2) Tools/Messages/verbose=2
3) media/openCaptureDevice/select"DVB Directshow"
4) Transponder="10744000 KHz", Transponder Symbol Rate="22000 KHz"
5) Play"
..The result is this (and yes, pre buffering is the last line..)

another try:

1) open VLC
2) Tools/Messages/Verbose=2
3) Transponder="10744000", Transponder Symbol Rate = "22000"
4) Advanced Options: Transponder/MultiplexFreq="10744000", FEC="3/4", TransponderSymbSate="22000"
5) "OK" / Play

Hi,

you are right - problem has to do with missing parameters.
Regarding of the used hardware we have success with different sets of parameters. After all, i can say both used cards (Hauppauge and Technisat) are working correct. Another info for everybody: Once you make a mistake in tuning-parameters rebooting might be needed.

used SW: 1.0.3, official release.

thx,
kakies

Hi,

after testing i can confirm DVB-S is working and quite stable, as long as the right set of parameters is given.
Anyway, it seems DVB-S2 is not supported at all - any change to get that working?

kakies

Hi Guys,

even while it is hard to find the needed settings, tuning to DVB-s via VLC works well. Actually
I collect all needed information and write a small manual to post here. To give others just a quick
start, please give this command line a try:

vlc dvb-s:// :dvb-frequency=12148000 :dvb-srate=27500 :dvb-polarisation=H :dvb-lnb-lof1=10600000 :dvb-lnb-lof2=0 :dvb-lnb-slof=0

regards
kakies

write a small manual to post here.
If you aren't too busy, you could add that info to Wiki also.

There are a couple of aspects to DVB-S2:
One is the new modulation types like 8PSK which is not supported by the Unified Tuning Model interface but it might be possible to write code to enable the new modulation types in VLC.
Second is the MPEG-4 streams in DVB-S2. The BDA module does not do anything with the transport stream other than pass it on to the TS Demux so setting the right TS Demux parameters could enable the MPEG-4 stream to be received.

1. Can someone give us a TS dump of those so we can support it DVB-s2 things?
2. How much those DVB-S2 card cost?
