Why was NetSync removed

Hello,
I'm just wondering why the NetSync module was removed (from what I can tell, only from the Windows version).
I need it for multi-file, multi-computer playback (video wall, but each screen is on a separate computer playing a separate file; need the files to stay in sync).
I've looked at the following articles already...

http://wiki.videolan.org/Documentation:Modules/netsync
I'm trying to use 0.8.6 to do this (the last Windows version that had NetSync), but no luck so far.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you VideoLAN community.
P.S. Yes, I would really like to use Linux, but other requirements of this project preclude its use
