CONVERT / SAVE / REPAIR AVI FILE

A file I downloaded results in "This AVI is broken. Seeking will not work correctly. Do you want to try to fix it?"
I click "repair it", and everything works fine, it plays fine.

I wanted to save 'the repair' so that I wouldn't get the message everytime I played back the file; but I couldn't find any SAVE/FILE command. Instead I found CONVERT/SAVE. But when I did that (specifying the same and then mp4 output) the resulting file was one percent the size of the original and of very poor quality.

What's going on? How do I do want I want to do (save the repair, but not lose quality)?

Thanks.

Your best bet is to use AviDemux to remux your video to AVI using the copy streams mode. Both video and audio streams will be copied into a new compliant AVI container so no quality will be lost.

I'll give that a try.

I've got the same problem, I can't believe there not way to save what VLC just recovered so nicely!

It's got to save what it just fixed somewhere, hasn't it? I can't see any reason why one couldn't have access to that fixe bit of data... that's really above me.

I've tried AviDemux, it won't even open the file VLC can repair :-|

PS: divfixpp.sourceforge.net did the job in about a minute for 700Mb avi file.
Amazing.

but i still wish I'd know how to persist VLC fix on file.
