VLC for Vista 64-Bit

I have searched the forum for this and have found nothing. I have also searched Google and haven't found any successful solutions. I have VLC on my machine running Vista 64-bit. Unfortunately it is version 0.8.6i, the first version I ever used and I just copied the installer to this machine. When I try to install the newest version I get the error:
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.
Having built my computer I know what it has and I know it's not working. I have seen that 32-bit programs should work with 64 but this installer is not working. On the Windows download page the first Windows7 zip worked. It just has no way to install it. I tried to extract the files and it didn't work but when I opened VLC directly from the zip it worked fine. The next Windows7 zip file was empty upon downloading though. Where can I find the latest version of a functional and installable VLC media player? Thanks!

Installer should work. And zip file should be complete one (same for 7z version).

You have problems with other downloads? (they get corrupted or transfer doesn't complete)

I had the same problem. However, when I looked at the downloaded file it only was 3 KB. Stopped my Download Manager, downloaded the file again and checked the size. This time the size was correct and the installer worked properly.

Whalley2. It's a weird posting that you dropped.
Because what is the problem?
You can download VLC for windows(it's on version 1.0.2 these days) : http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

And What do you use to unpack archive files? maybe it's useful to use a 3th party archive program. Like 7zip(it has win msi x64 bit version, i use that on my vista 64bit OS) : http://www.7-zip.org/download.html.

And their are vlc 64bit related topics :
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=48155#p154661 (Mediaplayer classic & FFDshow, both in x64 bit version, use that as 3th party x64 bit player, until VLC x64 is out)

...however the answer is, no their is no windows x64bit VLC yet. If you really want VLC 64bit, install Linux on that machine(then use Linux x64 VLC), Linux has way more true x64bit software then windows.
