VLC Activex control in Powerpoint doesn't save MRL

I've search and search and only find people asking this question and no answers... I'm hoping someone here will know the answer!
I've installed the latest VLC and added a v2 control to a powerpoint slide. The very first time I do this, it saves and when I open powerpoint again, the properties (specifically the MRL) are correct and the video plays.
Now if I update the properites or create and save a new slide etc, the original settings remain or the MRL becomes blank.
End result is I can't add any videos using the activex control. Well I can, but they won't save! They work fine when I put them in, but after a save, close and open the properties of the control are wrong.
Any ideas? This is driving me mad. I've tried it on two XP machines, both with Office 2003 and the latest VLC.
Thanks.
