VLC Vista 5.1 issues

I've been running vlc on a 64 bit vista system for ages great program, however for no apparent reason it has stopped playing 5.1 surround sound properly, the music and ambient noise is present but none of the speech. Has anyone come across this or got any ideas? All help appreciated.

So you have 5.1 speakers, but all 5.1 audio tracks have incorrect channel ordering when played in VLC?

Exactly, its driving me nuts (although not sure if its incorrect as such, the bulk of the speech is just not there) Doesnt seem to be the computer divx etc still work fine, but they also suck unfortunately.

Does it help if you change to waveout audio output module?

DGMurdockIII: could you post your logs when you open the file? (with Directsound and Waveout)
