VLC Convert/Save = Not User Friendly (MP4 to MP3)

Hey,

I'm using VLC Media Player 1.0.1.

I click on Media > Open File... > My File.mp4

Then when I go to Media > Convert/Save. . .

I click "add" and add my file (My FIle.mp4) then I click "Convert/Save"

It then brings me up to a "Convert" window where it shows the directory of my file "C:\My File.mp4". Below that is a blank directory and below that is a settings drop down bar, I set my option in Settings window under "Profile" as "Audio - MP3" then click "Start" and nothing.

Afterwards I try all the various options and NOTHING. Setting a directory for the output file continuously leads to a ".ps" file, which is not what I want. Manually editing the file to ".mp3" does nothing. Changing the settings in the "Profile" does NOTHING. NO matter how you change the settings you still wind up with a (useless) .PS file.

I've used VLC since around 0.6 and it's disheartening to see these "improvements" and what I thought was one of the best Video Players.

Flat out, can you convert .MP4 to .MP3 in VLC 1.0.1, YES/NO? And if YES, HOW?

Thanks.

File extension doesn't matter. You can always change it. And yes, the MP4 -> MP3 conversion should be possible, but you will lose video. You have some sample file I can test?

I never got mpeg to mpeg conversions to work. Convert to Ogg Vorbis and then to MP3.
