Jerky sound VLC 1.0.1 XP

I have a weird problem with my notebook (Core 2 duo T7400, Radeon 2400HD Realtek ALC660 and WINXP)

If I play any video vith the last VLC (release 1.0.1) the sound appears running irregularly, with clicks, brief out of sinc, silence and so on. (CPU usage 22%)

Running VLC 0.8.6f I see no problem.

Because I have several hard drives bootable, I tested it on Vista (no problem) and on another XP with almost no software installed (same trouble)

Any clue?

Does Waveout audio output work any better?

Does changing video output module make it any better?

Problem found :D
Actually the video playback was slower than the audio, leading to frequent out of sync.

After forcing to Directx3D output, rather than default, I got a correct playback.

I just wonder why the default preset was doing ok on VLC 0.8

Thanks a lot for your quick and helpful answer!

Output modules have changed between 0.8.x -> 1.0.x, so there might be some command now used that slows down the drawing in your setup.
