Hardcode subs exactly how VLC shows them

I have some mkv movies I stream to my PS3 and the subtitles look terrible. But if I play the mkv on my pc through VLC the subtitles look wonderful and have a special font and colors.

Is there a way to hardcode the subs into an avi and make it look exactly how VLC displays them?

Yes, but it isn't the best way to do it, I think.

Use Virtualdubmod or AVIdemux.

And extract the .AS S or .SSA subtitles to separate file before conversion.

When I open the avi in Virtualdubmod it says "cannot detect file type"

What the?

Try AVIdemux then.
