Playlist memory

I've looked in preferences, the FAQ and the forum but I'm unable to find out if it's possible to have the playlist remember the position of the last item played. Obviously this is a big deal with very large palylists. I'm sure this has come up before and I'm just not searching for the right term in the forum.

AFAIK VLC cannot return to last position even if the playlist format would support something like that.

Rats! I was hoping that VLC would store it in a database or in an INI (or something).

Hijacking my own thread: if I add files to the playlist window and do Ctrl-Y or click Media > Save Playlist to File... I don't get the typical Save As dialogue box. Does that imply I have a corrupted installation?

This is with the current 1.0.1 version running in Win XP Pro SP3 with 4GB RAM and the 3GB switch flipped.

Media library is stored, but played locations aren't. This might change in future.

Depend on what VLC version you are using. VLC 1.0.1 should have normal save dialog.

I'm using 1.0.1 so what does that mean and how can I fix it?

What kind of dialog you get?

Nothing. Normally when you do a Save As you get the standard Windows Save As dialog pop-up window but I don't get anything. I've restarted Windows and tried it again (several times) always with the same results.

Does removing of %appdata%\vlc folder help?

Do you mean under Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\vlc ?

Where ever %appdata%\vlc points (it can change between Windows versions).

Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\vlc is where I see it on my Win XP Pro system. Is there someplace else it could be hiding?

Sorry to be so dense but I don't want to screw anything up.

Then it is the right folder.

That fixed the problem. Of course it recreated the sub-directory as soon as I ran VLC. Does that imply there's a corrupted file in it?

FOUND IT: The problem was a corrupted line in the INI. It was filedialog-path=\xfffd\s3\x2 When I changed that to the one created in the newly-created vlc sub-directory it worked as expected.

I have no idea how that line got that path, there's nothing like it in my system. Go figure.

Thanks for you help.
