Saving YouTube video to file

Hello,

Using Windows XP Professional. I can stream a video from a file to another file with vlc 1.01 (with and without transcoding). But when I try to stream a YouTube video to a file on pc (even without transcoding) - the video plays locally - with no streaming to file. The file remains at 0 bytes.

I could save ok a YouTube video to file with vlc 0.8.6a. But of course then it needed the full video url (with &t etc.)

Is there a bug in this respect with the new vlc versions ?

Regards, pcd.

You can easily save YouTube videos with the Firefox Video Downloadhelper extension.

demux-dump should work. FLV transcoding doesn't.

I tried this command :-
C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC>vlc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRLZfgcsOKQ :de
mux=dump :demuxdump-file=C:\dream\test1.mpg

C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC>
vlc starts but nothing happens.

Thank you - it worked very well. Also installed the converter - which converts flv to mpg in very quick time !

Thanks, pcd.
