got error message
VLC crashes or it just complains?

With DirectSound audio output, you can force the default speaker setup (Tools -> Preferences... Show settings: All and Audio -> Output modules -> DirectX) otherwise it will default to Windows speaker setup.

VLC don't crash only complain with a message when i run video-ts(from portuguese to english):
"fail in reproduction:
DVDread can't open the disc "D:\DSOTM\DVD\VIDEO_TS\".
VLC is not capable to open MRL 'dvd://D:\DSOTM\DVD\VIDEO_TS'. Verify error register for more details"

DTS.dts still don't work too but have a good part:
now the default audio is 5.1 following your cool hints. 8)

please help more, if have any log error somewhere i can't find.(error log name?!? )

cheers VLC_help!

VLC_help,
i have one confused question and my english is not so good to ask but let me try...

in windows 7 i did the adjusts like yours recommendations but after install 1.0.5, all 5.1 sources play as 5.1 and stereo play as stereo...nothing is wrong, i mean...is perfect!

now came the stranges but very cool results:
i have one old pc(windows 2000) with 1.0.1 version where was done the same adjusts and the results are:
5.1 sources = 5.1 output
2.0(stereo) source = 4 channels... 8) (yes,..left, back left, right and back right and is really cool), in the audio menu of the player i can do the desireds adjusts BUT after install 1.0.5 version, i lose this cool 'feature' : no more 4 channels when i play stereo sources.
then i download from VLC homepage the 1.0.1, unrar, did the directX adjusts but no more 4 channels playing stereo...only 2 channels..the audio menu don't let me adjust 4 or 5.1 channels.
the 1.0.5 was installed but the 1.0.1 was only decompressed, both versions are now in windows 7, both versions have exactly the same directX adjusts but no more 4 channels....is completely unknow for me why i don't get the old result.

have 'salvation' to my case as i prefer to use the old version that give me 4 channels playing stereo?

thanks in advance for your great help!

VLC doesn't do upmixing. Some soundcards like ones made by Creative can do that.

VLC doesn't do upmixing.
oh yes, you're right but what i told was not upmix.

with 1.0.1 version i could hear stereo sources in 4 channels where Left is equal Left Back and Right is equal Right Back, nothing more.
no differences between Left and Right channels but playing in this 4 channels and i could select:
5.1, Quad(2 back,2 front), Stereo and Mono in the Audio Menu playing all stereo sources but no more with 1.0.5 version.(when adjusting audio dispositive option in audio sub-menu, sorry, my VLC was installed in portuguese)

is strange but was happening: 4 channels playing stereo. really a mystery...if we can't find the solution i will uninstall 1.0.5 version and intall 1.0.1 again.
the same was happening with winamp but VLC have my preference and winamp is not installed in windows 7 to check!

doubt: can be ffdshow that was installed in windows 2000 or VLC don't use ffdshow to play and only use directX?

thank you so much!
