Crashing Upon Exit

As a newbie here, I'm happy to find a collection of forums where one might discuss a problem or two.

In this instance, I'm happy to report that there is but one. For the record, I'm running Win XP. Until recently, I was using VLC Player 1.0 without any difficulties. Without any reason to explain why, it began to reboot the system when I shut the player down. Note: this only happened after viewing a video. The simple act of opening and closing the player without actually using it does not cause the same result.

After a week of this, I uninstalled that version and installed version 1.0.1. Unfortunately, the problem still exists. Very strange, in that I'd been using the player for quite some time and, until the rebooting business started recently, was very happy with it.

I've looked around this forum for discussions about the situation, and have found the question posed for an earlier version. 0.98, I believe it was. While I located some interesting back-and-forth conversations, I didn't find any resolutions. (It's possible I may have missed a thread that contained one).

In any event, are other folks experiencing this nuisance situation? Even more importantly, what can be done to get back on track?

Many thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions.

VLC cannot crash or freeze your computer. Broken hardware or bad device drivers can.

I appreciate your reply, VLC_Help.

Since my original post, I've managed to track down the source of the problem. Somehow, a setting within my firewall had changed; by fixing that, the VLC Player now closes without any difficulty.

Thank you,
