Hi, I just ditched Winamp for VLC. So far the only problem I've encountered is the "what's playing now" balloon popup from the systray icon. I'd prefer not to disable the systray icon as it frees taskbar space. Is there a way to disable popups?

I'll second that question. I keep my taskbar hidden for more screen space. I really don't need a popup bringing my taskbar onscreen with the track name and number of every new song that is in the playlist.

Realize I'm about 90% computer illiterate, but I have looked and can find no preference settings addressing turning this popup off. So I'd appreciate any advice to be in plain english rather than computer jargon that will go way over my little head.

Preferences->All->Interface->Main Interface->Qt

Uncheck the option you need and restart VLC.

Thanks for your help. I turned off the Popups. I then selected "Start in task bar". I also selected "Taskbar Icon" for good measure LOL. Now I can't bring up the interface by selecting "Show VLC media player". It just changes to "Hide VLC media player in taskbar". I no longer have access to preferences. Looks like a reinstall for me. I guess that's why the features are labeled "Advanced".

"Qt" confuses me. Comparing it to the options available, I was certain it was the "Be Quiet" option. I checked/selected it. I did not need to uncheck it. I saved with the save button, and restarted VLC.

I'm still getting the popup. I've tried several times to set and reset. So I'm guessing I must have misunderstood your directions. That or this is yet another of those situations where things that normally work don't work for me because I have that type of experience all the time. "That's weird!" and "It should work." are things I hear regularly. I've got a piece of the twilight zone following me around I guess.

Regardless, thanks for your help and I apologize for any misunderstandings on my part. Maybe I'll just use WMP to listen to music again.

Excellent! Thanks so much Androidlove! I was making a really simple mistake of not opening the folders correctly! Learn as I go I guess! Thanks a lot! Now I can get back to distracting myself instead of my computer distracting me!
