Subtitles extend beyond viewable area

Hi. When I watch videos with large black borders, such as old black and white movies, I have to do a crop to increase the video size. When the subtitles are on though they get cropped too. How do I get the subtitles confined to the viewable area?

If you want subtitle position changed, you can use force option in subtitle setup. (assuming that you use text based subtitles)
Tools -> Preferences... (set Show Settings to All) and Video -> Subtitles/OSD -> Text renderer

I tested all of those settings, but even when setting the size to 'small' there isn't a way to stop long lines of text being cropped along with the video borders.

Sorry, I understood that you crop top and bottom, but now I am assuming you crop from left and right. I don't think there is currently a option to fix your issue easily. One option is to convert subtitles to SSA/A SS ones where you can control display area. But it would still require some manual trial&errors to find proper values.
