playing wmv files in vlc1.0.0 & 1.0.1 [RESOLVED]

Ever one to be uptodate I upgraded vlc from 0.8.8d; 0.9.9; then 1.0.0. and now 1.0.1
I have a video ( actually I am only interested in the AUDIO) encoded, so my screen reecorder tells me, at a constant bit rate of 196Kbps. Slow I know but the image is esentially static and I listen to the audio at work (naughty boy!) and the bit rate varies between 82 bpm ( bits per minute!) and 10Mbps.
The variable bit rate being caused by our firewall s/w checking the source of any stream for viruses - as if :)
I also have my own, small, network on which I run w2k server and an xp client.
It is on the xp client I seem to have a problem.
In vlc 0.8.8d and 0.9.9 I can play http://do-it.no-ip.org/MEDIA/arts/theat ... onplay.m3u and hear the audio - no problem.
However in vlc1.0.0 and 1.0.1 I do not hear the audio and the screen shows only what I take to be the first frame...
Any ideas anyone?
Chris

1.0.1 should fix this issue. Try the nightly builds.

WARNING: The nightly builds are UNSTABLE and may not work at all.
There is absolutely NO SUPPORT for it from the VideoLAN Team.
caused me to pause a bit...:)
thanks - /build/win32/branch-20090724-0004
from which I took
vlc-1.0.1-pre-win32.exe 24-Jul-2009 02:30 17M
does not work though - as per quote :)
so I tried

Index of /build/win32/trunk-20090723-2204
from which I took
vlc-1.1.0-git-20090723-2204-win32.exe 24-Jul-2009 00:30 16M
which buffered the contents of the m3u file three times; played the contents of the buffer (about 2-15 seconds of play time) then rebuffered. It did this three times then went on to the next element in the m3u file (below)

Code: Select all

#extm3u #extinf:1,Chronicls of Ait http://just-do-it.no-ip.org/media/arts/theater/radio/radio4/afternoonplay/ChroniclesofAit/Afternoon%20Play%20-%20Chronicles%20of%20Ait_2009_07_22_15_49_34.wmv #extinf:1,Dignity http://just-do-it.no-ip.org/media/arts/theater/radio/radio4/afternoonplay/Dignity/Afternoon_play_-_Dignity_2009_07_06_19_13_25.wmv #extinf:1,Listen Up http://just-do-it.no-ip.org/media/arts/theater/radio/radio4/afternoonplay/listenup/Listen_Up_2009_05_29_23_55_14.wmv
I think I will revert to 0.9.9 (which does not 'buffer' at all BTW) and curb my enthusiasm for 'being up to date'
thanks for your time though
much appreciated
Chris

I am afraid I do not know.
here is the contents of vlc; view; add interface; debug logging
file "C:\Documents and Settings\renamed_admin\Desktop\vlc-log.txt" when i follow the link above to the m3u file running vlc1.0.0

I can confirm issues, but my messages are different ones. I don't get avcodec error, just lots of buffering messages and
access_http error: cannot connect to just-do-it.no-ip.org:80
access_http error: seek failed
0.9.9 complains
access_http error: error: HTTP/1.1 404 Object Not Found
access_mms error: error: HTTP/1.1 404 Object Not Found
but stream works.

I really do not have a clue - the dreaded 'dose media player plays it (http://just-do-it.no-ip.org/MEDIA/arts/ ... onplay.m3u) without problem.
Since I spend much of my time at work that is all I am really bothered about and they will not permit me to use vlc.
Which, I feel, is annoying but there you go.
Having said that - I have just checked the stream, in case my server has been disabled ( by my son!) and I am happily recieving the stream both at work on 'dose and vlc 0.9.9 at home...

Could someone third person share his/her log messages?
