drag and drop video onto vlc crashes program

I run vlc. I get the smallish startup window with the position slider, play button, etc. If I drag/drop a video onto this window I get a crashed program. Running vlc 1.0.0 on windows xp.

The next time I run vlc, it asks if I want to send in a bug report. (Is this really monitored? should I click yes?)

Does removing %appdata%\vlc folder help?

I am using --config to point to my own location, and so the app directory is still from my 0.99 installation. I've only unzipped the 1.0.0 version into another directory. This may be crucial here, as when I run this on an installed version on win2k, it does not crash.

UPDATE: I just tried it by first removing (or renaming so I could save it) the app directory. I see that after doing this, I end up with 2 files, crashdump and vlc-qt-interface.ini in a new vlc directory (in %appdata%). BTW, crashdump is an empty file, is this intended? Where is the information about the crash actually stored, since it asks if I want to send in a report.

However, if a video has already started playing, and I drag/drop a different video onto the window, it does work w/o crashing. So, it's also only happening when there has been no video opened yet.

You don't get crash if you open the file via Media menu? (so issue only exist if you drag&drop first file VLC)

Well, I just went to verify that. And this is correct (only happens on the first time when the window is small), EXCEPT that it does not happen every time.

In fact, I've just noticed a similarity with my other crash posted (viewtopic.php?f=14&t=62083)

Sometimes, after it crashes and I re-run it, I get the crash message. I select don't send and it then brings up the small window which if I drag/drop onto it after these steps, it will often work.

But when it works, I am again seeing the behavior mentioned in the above post, where I get a small window, gets big, gets small, then get's big again.

Maybe these are both caused by the same underlying problem.
