Hi,

I'm new to VLC media player, so I do apologize if my question is simple and has already been covered already. I did some google searching before I posted to make sure I wasn't missing any obvious documentation.

When I watch an AVI file, I normally set VLC to fullscreen. When I do this, and when the motion picture's native resolution is smaller than that of my monitor's, then I get a very blocky looking picture. I can see the pixels pretty well. To me, this means there are no advanced filters being applied to the output.

I'm using Windows 7 x64 (Build 7201). I have the KLite Codec Pack installed. Would someone be so kind as to tell me how I can increase the quality of the video output? I would prefer the highest quality filter, since I have an overclocked Intel Core i7 on my system and I'm pretty sure I have the power to handle it.

VLC can't use any external codecs or filters. So KLite doesn't matter to VLC.

If you want better quality you can try FFDshow with some DirectShow player like Media Player Classic and adjust FFDshow pot processing settings (there should multiple guides for this via Google).

So you're basically telling me not to use VLC? Okay. I wasn't aware the answer was that simple.

If the video is both of low resolution and low quality, it might not matter what player/codec/filter/settings combo you use.
ALSO! some video card/ LCD monitor combinations look bad, my dad has a VIA based on board videocard pluged to an AOpen monitor (ASUS secondary brand, i'm told), and everything I've tryed on it looks like A S S. Same monitor on other box (with a SiS on board videocard) looked slightly better.

There also was a pixelization problem in win 7 due to drivers or something like that, rigt?

Well just from looking at the video output with my on eyes, this looks like an obvious case of no filtering be applied to scaled video images. There are some filters that can be applied to it that will blend the pixels smoothly so the image doesn't look "blocky", so to speak. If VLC isn't applying a filter to this video output, I'll try it with MPC Home Cinema and see if the problem still persists.
