Choppy with 1080p playback, 720p fine

Hi, I am having problems with playback of 1080p movies. It's the first time I've tried 1080p movies and it is consistently choppy and lags during playback. When I play 720p movies it works perfectly.

I play the movies off my computer via hdmi cable to my toshiba 40" 1080p tv.
While playing the 1080p movie my cpu usage is at 32% and ram is about 50%.

My computer:

Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9750 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 4094MB RAM
2x ATI Radeon 3870iceQ 512mb video cards
SoundBlaster X-FI Xtreme Audio soundcard

Most searches I have found have blamed 1080p playback on hardware trying to keep up to playback but I don't think that's my problem...Help!

Yes, 1080p are usually too difficult to decode with VLC.

First, use VLC 1.0.0 dev versions
Second, deactivate loop filtering (set it to all).

This is not true at all. I've been using VLC since .86b to run 1080p MKV's back when I had my Core 2 duo E6600 with 2gb and an 8800gts.

Sorry I can't comment on your problem other then to say check your driver versions, but the type of hardware you have in coordination with VLC is definitely not an issue.

I will give you some 1080p at 30Mbps and you will not decode them with VLC.
