Trouble with streamed playback

I was trying to play the following movie trailer online using VLC and it constantly freezes:

http://www.fastandfuriousmovie.net/medi ... D_720p.mov

I was using VLC 0.9.9 running on WinXP x64 behind a 100Mbit fiberLAN connection. During playback with VLC the transfer rate lies around 1 MB/s (MegaBytes per second) and then something hangs within the VLC and the transfer rate drops almost zero. I usually have no problems playing Hi-Def mediafiles on my harddrive using VLC.

On QuickTime player I can visually see how the buffer fills up during playback (I miss this feature on VLC) and the transfer rate is around 3.2 MB/s and steady until the entire movie has filled the playback buffer.

So I strongly suspect something is wrong with VLC as I rarely have managed to get trouble-free streamed playback using it.

For attempts on other movie trailers I suggest going to

Download the movie first.

I know I can download it but that's far besides the point which is that it doesn't work properly with streaming.

So the playback works correctly if you download the file to hard drive before playing it?
