Deinterlace set as default via filter in video preferences

Hi,
I use VLC primarily to watch my camcorder videos or TV shows I missed on Sky. I invariably switch deinterlacing on via the user interface on the VLC screen (right click > video > deinterlace > <xxxxxxxx>). I recently discovered on the VideoLAN wiki that I can make VLC default the use of deinterlace via the Preferences menus (Tools > Preferences > Show Settings <All> > Video > Filters)

Having done this and selected Linear as the Deinterlace (I use this or BOB as it's recommended on the videoLAN wiki / 100fps.com) method I've noticed that the following error gets logged over and over again (multiple times per second) in the messages screen throughout playback

deinterlace error: doubling the frame rate is not supported yet
main warning: late picture skipped (938792)

The same error appears if I use Bob as the default method.

These errors do not appear in the messages screen if I use the screen interface (right click > video > deinterlace > <xxxxxxxx>). Does this mean the Bob / Linear do not work at all or just if I implement them by default via saved preferences?

I am using VLC 0.98a on Windows XP. I searched the forum for similar issues but couldn't see anything, apologies if I've missed it.

Thanks / Regards
Tony

You should see by your own eyes if deinterlace works or not. Some deinterlace filters try double the frame rate but as the log says, it doesn't work yet. It might in 1.0.0 builds, but I haven't tested it.

Hi,
Sorry - should have mentioned - it looks like it works fine but I don't know if this because it's skipping half the picture because of the error.

Both Bob and Linear do double the frame rate but the error only appears if you use the filter via preferences and not by right clicking on the screen ( which prompted me to post in the first place).

Tony

Hmmm... I don't get deinterlace error: doubling the frame rate is not supported yet error at all. You use some specific source?
