I've been downloading many rar. files lately from sites served by Rapidshare, but when I want VLC to open them and play them it tells me that they cannot be opened and played...
I thought that VLC could open and play every file in this planet...I feel somehow a bit dissapointed....
Is there any way of playing these files?.What do you reccomend me to do?

.rar files cannot be played because VLC does not support them.

RAR-files are like ZIP, they are filecontainers. I'm guessing you want to play whats in them without unpacking - because of licensing issues this cannot be done with VLC.

This has been asked and requested many times, the answer is always no.

Go to http://www.zipgenius.com/ and download and install the free client. Then use that program to extract your .rar files.

ZipGenius is freeware and works like a charm. I have used it for years.

.rar files are not like .bin, .cue files which VLC can handle. .rar files are like .zip files and are for minimizing files for transport over various media like the Internet, networks, etc.
