magnify filter?
man, the developement just sucks big time.
i remember that i asked for this feature about 3 or 4 YEARS ago!!!
EVERY decent video player has the option with a single click or mousescroll to ZOOM into the picture when for eg. the borders are too big!
but no not vlc!
idiots... i continue using other players, thanks a lot.

I'd like this feature too but given the way that forum members like musil get banned for asking simple questions, I guess it won't be happening.
See you all in a month LOL

Well, news flash: 12 years later and this feature still doesn't exist. If it hasn't happened yet, it ain't gonna happen. Nevermind that even my Chinese IP camera's buggy web interface can do it. I'm probably going to be banned now for criticizing them too. Going to keep looking for other players until I find one with modern features. Do you know of any that have this feature?

In vlc using the mouse wheel alone can be used to increase or decrease the volume. Ctrl + mouse wheel increases or decreases the size of subtitles.
To zoom do the following.
- Launch vlc without opening a video.
- Click Tools ---> Effects and Filters ---> Video Effects (tab) ----> Geometry (tab) and checkmark Interactive Zoom to activate it and then click Save ---> Close.
- Open a video and you'll see a Picture-In-Picture effect with a movable onblong inside that.
- Move the oblong to the area you want to zoom in on.
Here's a pix.

Interactive Zoom just needs an keyboard shortcut. It doesn't even have to be set by default, only the ability to assign one to it, because as you can see in Hitchhiker's post, it's quite cumbersome to enable/disable otherwise.
