Well I know what you think. Yeah YOU ! A newbie ! Go to preferences and change the language !
Yeah I did. But i can't use any of them. Danish of french or spanish...
I tried the commadn line too. No change.
I tried to check my "regional" preference on the control panel. No problem.

SO what ? Am I the only person in this forum to have this problem?!!

HELP ! I'm becoming crazy with this ;)

Thanx for your help guys.

But i can't use any of them.
What you mean? That VLC doesn't change the language when you select new one, press Save and restart VLC?

That's right. And I don't know why ! All I know is that i try to uninstall it dozen of times and nothing changes...
Default is Auto. When I choose any languages the select show it - french for example - then save and exit and launch again... Still english.
But it says french...
Also i tried the command line -language but nothing happens. And as I said i think i'm the only one in this case!!! I checked my preferences for regional stuff in the control panel... nothing's wrong...

Any idea? Anyway thanx for te reply ! I thought my message was dead !

Hope to find an issue to that even if it's not THAT important. I prefered to have my native language even if english is not really a big problem ;)

Close all vlc.exe instances. Then remove %appdata%\vlc folder. And then start VLC with your chosen language from command-line.

Hi

Well I already did that. Did it again right now but same thing. Language is on french on the prefs but nothing change on the software.
Incredible ! And the computer is brand new with XP pro SP3, I'm a user of vlc since the beginning and i'm not a newbie. I don't understand what's wrong really as i tried to uninstall it, clean the registry etc... and then install it again. Same thing same bug.

Any idea?!

I just tried and it worked first time. I had not insisted so far (I wanted in English but I only had French because this is Windows default on my computer).
As far as I can see the language choice dropdown is only available in 'simple' mode Settings - perhaps I'm wrong, but I didn't notice it anywhere in Advanced Settings.

In advanced settings it's on the interface menu. I'm on french now but still in english though...
It's driving me crazy ! Even if it's just a detail...

Could you start VLC from command-line with -vvv and chosen language option and then paste messages here? Uninstall/reinstall doesn't always remove all VLC settings. That is why I recommend removing %appdata%\vlc folder manually.

I deleted the vlc config in "application data" then I typed in command line : vlc -vvv --language fr
Then I copy pasted the messages in the tools menu :

qt4 debug: Error while initializing qt-specific localization
That might explain the QT4 issues.

Does

Code: Select all

vlc -vvv --reset-config --reset-plugins-cache --language=fr
work any better?

Same thing. English Language on the software but french is selected in the interface preference.
Incredible !!!!

And I'm sorry VLC_help to annoy you

So only language that you can get to work is English?

How many files you have in your vlc\languages folder?

I don't have vlc/language folder
I have a "locale" folder where there are plenty of (55 exactly) folders (ar, bg, fr for example).

Yes...

If those folders under locale contain LC_MESSAGES subdirectory and vlc.mo files, I don't know where the problem comes.
