ATI TV wonder 600 USB 2.0 support

First of all, I'm a little torn between if this should be posted here or in the Windows troubleshooting section, If I have made the wrong choice I hope that a moderator will move it.
I've been using videoLAN for media playback for a few years now. Just downloaded and installed the latest .9.9 release.
I have an ATI TV wonder USB 2 tv tuner. The ATI "Cataylyst" software that comes with it is truly awful. I would really like to have an alternative, but just tried the new version of VLAN with poor results. If I go to "Media" and select "Open capture device ..." I can indeed find the ATI tuner listed under the video devices. And after a bit of playing with the configuration I can indeed get a poor video picture. However, the device does not show under audio and selecting it as a video source results in no audio. A more serious problem (if anything can be more serious than watching TV without audio) is that this is a TV tuner for both the old NTSC system and the new digital broadcasts, but there seems to be no way under VLAN to select the digital tuner rather than the analog tuner.
I guess that I should also mention that if I click "show more options" that I can see a window for a dshow command string, it contains:
dshow:// :dshow-vdev="ATI TV Wonder 600 USB 2.0" :dshow-adev=""
If there is any magic chant that I can enter here to help, please point me in the right direction.
I'm guessing that the issue is that this device just isn't supported. I would like to request that the developers consider supporting it. The vendor provided media player is extremely problem prone and any suggested alternative would be welcome.
