Total noob streaming question

hi all
new to the forum and although i come from a networking background i have no idea about streaming media.
what i want to be able to do is stream from one windows pc/server to a single laptop. my network is setup as a local lan.
so if anyone can give me a simple step by step guide id really appreciate it
