Odd problem with VLC 0.9x and Windows 7

I'm running VLC on a laptop, an Acer 5920 with a Geforce 8600, and Windows 7 Beta. The odd thing is that VLC 0.9x will usually work perfectly, but sometimes it will begin the process and not pop up the window to view the video. Audio will play but no VLC window shows. If I attempt to start up the program on its own, not through a video, nothing happens, even though the process appears to load.

I tried deleting all preferences and loading defaults, but nothing worked. Reinstallation didn't work. The only thing that fixed the problem was reverting to VLC version 0.8.6i.

I'm fine running that version. I simply wanted to report the bug and the solution if anyone has similar problems.

Can you try VLC 1.0.0-devel versions?

I have tested both 0.9.8a and 1.0.0 on Windows 7 and they are both working well - or should I say with the same limitations as I find with Vista, so your problem could be linked to your hardware configuration.
