SKIPPED Dvd root menu after upgrade from 0.8.6c

Postby flicVLC » 16 Mar 2009 08:16

Hi people,
yesterday I decided to upgrade my old and stable version of VLC (0.8.6c) to the newest one 0.9.8a ... but now
when I open my dvd ISO files (used many and many times with the old version without problems..)
the first Dvd menu (root ?) is skipped automatically by the player so I cannot choose my language at the startup.
This is very boring cause you have to navigate into different dvd menu written in any language and find what concern
"language" setup in order to get back again your menu written with the right one.

So, I tried to uninstall and go back to the old version but nothing, no more correct dvd startup. What's happened ?
Do you know how can I fix it ?

Just a tip: I noticed that this menu is again reachable under Navigation->Dvd Menu->Audio
but if I try to use this method (always boring anyway) it becomes difficult to go back to the main menu...

Many thanks in advance

Flic

You tried to remove %appdata%\vlc folder?

Yes VLC_help, I already did it based on your help in other topics.
No results anyway.

:(

Thanks for your attention

Because it is the only place where VLC should store the settings. So the functionality of old version should return on reset.

Sorry my friend, but I tried to delete this folder many different time after and before every installation but "no way" to get back
my player to the right function.
Just an update: using an old version (0.7.2) I can finally resume this function at dvd startup but in this case the first screen appears and disappears
in a few seconds, with or without user selection.

Cheers

Are you sure you installed back the same version?

Absolutely VLC_help,
I checked my hdd ghost to be sure, but it was that version.
What I cannot understand is why after go back to that version, functions are not as well as before.

Just a doubt : what does new version change in the OS ? only files in its folder or something else ?
registry keys ? other ? does it use Windows dlls ?

Thank you

Bye

VLC installer copies the files to VLC installation folder. It also adds some registry keys, but those are used in Windows Explorer for Context Menus and File Associations. When VLC is run, it loads/stores settings to %appdata%\vlc .
