How To Drag n Drop Songs Into VLC to Play

How do I drag and drop audio files into the vlc window to play them? I can play songs fine through > Open > Disc > Play. But, I when I try to drag n drop songs into the vlc window, it won't play. What do I do?

I just tested/confirmed with 0.9.8a and dragging works fine - this is true whether you drag to the vlc shortcut on the desktop or towards a playing window - works for audio or video. You can also drag a playlist file. I think I managed to do that with 0.8 versions also. If options are set to play only one instance from file you can just as well double click to launch and replace the media already playing.
With the 1.0.0 more options with easy access to recent media in the menu.
