File Opening and Playing Delay

When opening a file to play directly from a folder, the audio immediately begins playing from the beginning, but no window appears for about 60 seconds.
when the window for VLC pops up, it is insynch with the audio.
i can still play files, but as you can figure, its quite annoying.

closing a file, and opening it again results in this problem again.

Using VLC 0.9.8a
no settings changed from default
on Windows Vista Ultimate x64
nVidia 181.22 graphics drivers

I am having a similar problem with 0.9.8a, the video will either hang on a frame near the beginning of the file, or not play at all, while the audio seems to start playing a little ways into the file (5-10 seconds).

Dragging the slider back to the start of the file repeatedly eventually makes it play correctly from the start.

But this is extremely annoying and coupled with the fact that I absolutely loathe the new flamboyant and messy skin, I decided just to take a few minutes to roll back to 0.8.6h.

All my issues are now blissfully non-existent. :)

You get some errors to VLC log? (Tools -> Messages... and set Verbosity to 2 before opening the file)

no error messages.
but i did notice i was wrong on one thing.
after opening a video, waiting through the 50seconds of audio to access tools-messages
i closed it, and tried a different video
it only took 15 seconds for it to start displaying the window.

I am getting this same issue, on 3 different PCs, One of which dual boots Win XP and Ubunut and the issue also exists in Ubuntu.

I will attempt to get the logs you have previously requested and will post back.

The files are not damaged as play fine in other players, also up until a few versions ago the issue did not exist. one of the machines is runnign with 2Gb or RAM and the files are only .avi at standard res, not 720p or higher.
