Cannot find Transcode Wizard

Postby stanley_vlc » 03 Feb 2009 08:07

I am running 0.9.8a on Windows Vista, and this instructional lays out pretty simply how to use the Transcoding Wizard: http://www.videolan.org/doc/streaming-h ... /ch02.html

However, I do not see "File" as a pulldown option. I see:

Media Audio Video Playback Playlist Tools Help

I notice it says that Transcoding is only available on the wxWindows interface for VLC, which is supposedly the default Windows interface. I can't figure out why my installation of VLC is missing this option.

There isn't any transcoding wizard anymore (0.8.6i is the last version that has the transcoding wizard).

As VLC_help said that is for the old wxWidgets interface. As of VLC 0.9.x the default interface is now Qt4. The equivalent to the Wizard is now accessed by going to "Media >> Convert / Save...". You should be able to apply some of the information (such as codecs/encapsulation formats etc.) from the Streaming HowTo to the next interface.
