Blocky/pixelated playback in Windows 7

Postby geoffrey2008 » 02 Feb 2009 09:44

Pretty common issue according to SevenForums.com , anyone know of any fixes or workarounds?

Windows 7 is great but I'll be lost without VLC. Anyone any suggestions?

Latest video drivers/updates installed. Latest version of VLC installed.

Its an Nvidia 8800GTS 512MB

So I use the Vista drivers and not the Windows 7 specific drivers?

Use Vista drivers.
Works perfectly.

Thank you very much.

Sorry to revive a somewhat old thread, but I have a question to add onto this so people coming from Google search results can have more information (This thread shows up at the top of the search results).

How do I force the NVIDIA installer to use Vista drivers instead of the W7 drivers? Note that I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

At least NVIDIA doesn't give info how to do that. Pixelation should also vanish if you use DirectX video output, but that disables Aero.

I know they don't document that, otherwise I wouldn't be posting here :)

Any idea how to do it, though?

Unpack the installer, remove/edit some files and run the install INF manually.

You have to edit the install inf to make it so that it install Vista drivers instead of 7 drivers. You might find more info from driver modifications forums.
