No DVD controls after upgrade to 0.9.8

I just upgraded to 0.9.8 from 0.8.6. I know, stupid me. Under 0.8.X, when a DVD would start up and the DVD Root Menu (or whatever it is called, the screen where you can select to play the movie, set audio options, select extras, etc) would show up, I could make selections with the mouse. Apparently this feature is no longer there by default. Is there some option that I'm missing? I've waded through all the various settings and I can't figure out what I have to set. Why on earth would such feature be removed anyway?

It works in here. Have you tried to reset VLC settings? (remove %appdata%\vlc folder)?

Yes, I have. I've even tried it on a pristine XP SP3 installation just to make sure it wasn't something else that was messing it up.

So when you move mouse over video, does it hover the menu items?

I have the same problem. Also on XP, unable to click on any of the options on the DVD's menu

But does the mouse movement highlight the menu items?

No, it doesn't highlight the menu options.

But keyboard selection works OK?
