Pixelized video with 0.9.8a and Direct3D output

Hi, the video output is pixelized when running 0.9.8a and Direct3D output in Windows 7, if I change to Open GL it looks fine.

I had the same problem in Vista if Aero was disabled but it's enabled in Windows 7 and still no go.

ATI 4850 using the windows 7 beta drivers from ATI.

Ideas?

oh well, Windows 7 likes the DirectX output mode but when playing in that mode windows turns off Aero.

Windows 7:
output = direct3d: pixelized...
output = opengl: ok, but high cpu usage, Aero working.
output = directx: ok, lower cpu usage 50% of opengl, but windows disables Aero.

Can't have it all :)

Code: Select all

output = direct3d: pixelized...
Must be bug in drivers.

having the same problem on windows 7 and it's really annoying. on directx3d or directx the video looks absolutly crappy, and on openGL I can't watch it fullscreen without lags ...
what drivers? the graphic cards? because I know a lot of people who are using vlc on windows 7 without any problems, but some people are really having problems ... . I guess it's a problem with DX11 ...

No. VLC doesn't use any DX11 code. Could someone provide screenshot that shows the issue?

Use service like imageshack to share images. You cannot upload stuff to here.

Hi problem solved, changed to the latest vista x64 drivers (8.561.0.0) instead of the ati windows 7 beta drivers and now direct3D output works just fine.

Same thing for Nvidia users..it is actually the official Win7 certified drivers that cause the graphical glitch, and only when in full screen mode.
You can use the latest vista drivers (non beta) - 181.20. Work fine for me and now video looks fine in fullscreen.
It's weird glitch though...it looks as if there is some sort of a large grid in the background of the image.

EDIT: Just noticed a different problem now, probably what you were describing in the first place. When I try to scale the video (by resizing the window) it becomes heavily pixelated, a bit more apparent problem than the one I had before. However there is no such problem if the video is at 100% scale or in fullscreen mode (seems that there are problems with scaling the video down). Interestingly enough, it was the other way around with Win7 drivers...I had the glitch only when i switched to fullscreen mode. But anyway, Vista drivers are still better since I normally watch videos in FS ...

Direct3D output uses Direct3D to scale the texture (video). So the texture scaling might work better with some other filtering method.

I have just had some horrible pixilation issues with 0.9.8a which I have managed to resolve...

Thought I'd share what I learnt, as it may be of use with the other issues...

With Vista x64:

When the aero Interface is disabled, ie in Apperance and Settings using 'Windows Vista Basic' The Directx3D output (tools/prefences/Video/Output) of VLC becomes pixelated
However when Windows is set to use 'Windows Aero' The Picture in VLC is Fine..

I presume that Windows is screwing with the Direct3D settings which is affecting VLC. this hypothesis is supported further in that when VLC is running I cannot change Windows Apperance settigns from 'Windows Vista Basic' to 'Windows Aero' The screen greys and resumes with no changes.

Parax.

Use other drivers or video output module.
